TWINS?!? I'm at a loss for words (and that's not often)

Yesterday Dustin and I went to the Dr. for our first soniagram. I figured it would be fairly routine and what we experienced when we saw Abby for the first time. Thankfully Dustin actually got to take off a little early and go with because the surprise that happened soon after would've been hard to swallow alone, not-to-mention sad that Dustin missed it.

With Abby coming into this world not too long ago and my surgery (removed a 3"cyst, my right ovary & right tube) in April, Dustin and I are pretty familiar with my insides and knowing what is what. As she started the scan we started to see 2 black spots and then a baby in each. The lady said "Do y'all see what I'm seeing?" and as Dustin and I look at each other in disbelief she says "Y'all are having twins!". Shock is not even the word for it...this blind-sighted us so hard that all we could say was "Oh wow & how is this possible since we don't have twins in our families."

From the start when we found out I was pregnant with Abby we said that fertility was a blessing and children are as well. Now that we are "blessed" with 2 more on the way, we are praying that God "blesses" us with the tools/space needed to take care of these blessings. Please pray that our faith would remain strong knowing that God will provide. We are very grateful and thankful that my mom is next door and has already helped and will continue to help us tremendously. We are also very thankful for the friends who have already offered babysitting, baby stuff and prayers!

With all that said they've given me a new due date of April 1st and hopefully they will be early (as twins usually are) so that they don't have that birthday :). If anyone has any tips on twins or websites for freebies hehe please let us know. For those who have already voted on our poll we're sorry but you'll have to vote again as the poll has changed.

TWINS...I keep on having to say it so it will hopefully sink in! And for those wondering Dustin is coping fine...excited, but still in shock. Nothing we've ever done has been conventional so why start now, right?

  1. Sorry I didn't believe you two at first last night. All I can say is to God be the glory. Indeed He will prove himself faithful as He will provide for ALL your needs. My babies are growing up, so I would love to help when the time comes.

  2. Hi, I came across your blog through Buffie's. You can view our family's anytime at http://torranceandcaroladams.blogspot.com. We got to experience the same thing you all experienced at your sonogram 4 years and 9 months ago. I was 17 1/2 weeks into my pregnancy when we had our first sonogram and saw to big circles on the monitor. I did not have any children yet. So far, the twins are the only ones we've had. I did find out that fraternal twins are inherited from the mother's line. Trace your roots carefully. I did not know of any twins in my family except my paternal grandmother but she was an identical twin which is NOT an inherited gene, according to our doctor. We finally found out through many questions to my mom, aunts and great-aunts that my great-great-great grandmother gave birth to 2 sets of fraternal twins. That gene skipped many generations until landing on me. I can tell you that even though twins are usually born before 34 weeks, our twins went 37 1/2 weeks and were showing no signs of coming anytime soon! I believe the doctor said 36 or 37 weeks was considered full-term for twins. They were each almost 7 pounds a piece and I had 2 boys delivered naturally, neither were breech even though the second twin turned around after the first one was born. He had all that room all of a sudden and didn't know what to do except do somersaults. The doctor turned him around with no problem. He was born 15 minutes after his big brother. They are my life and double blessings from God. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. My email is momma2twinboyz@hotmail.com and my name is Carol Smith Adams. (I grew up in Lexington, NC, attending Reeds Baptist Church and graduated from West Davidson High School with Buffie's brother, Jonathan.)

  3. Hey there. I'm friends with The Hauts, and now the Joneses and Buffie..and well, anyway...you get the idea.

Anyway, a couple weeks ago Beth told me about her "friend who is having twins and who's oldest will be under 2 years." And mentioned that maybe we could relate.

Well, what you wrote above is basically an exact description of my life just about 4 years ago (our twins turned 3 in May). Anyway, it's been crazy, but since then we've added two more babies (virtual twins) through fostering/adoption (that's where we met Beth & Noah).

Anyway, I say all of that to say: If you need to talk (or cry, b/c I know it can be overwhelming) email me: (beaverbunch (at) gmail (dot) com) and I'll give you my number. I TOTALLY get where you are coming from.

    They are certainly blessings.

And no, twins don't run in our family either! Well, they do now, of course! ;)
